Mental Illness in America: An American Problem
We must start to find a coomon ground and understanding of mental illness and get people to STOP making it such a BIG stigma which keeps people from coming out, like the HiV/ Aids problem in the… good old USA. All of us know or have someone in our immediate family that suffers from a mental illness. Some of us act like thats their problem and i dont want anything to do with it. Well the REAL story is MENTAL ILLNESS is a Societal problem that affects ALL of US. So to like TRY and disconnect yourself with what is REAL will only prove disastrious. I suffer from Bipolarism and depression for which i take meds for and see a psyc. doctor for. As long as i take my meds. im very much ok and when i dont thats when im out of control. As for someone saying that we should have better requirements for people buying guns with mental illness, I agree whole hardly and that same LAW, should be retroactive, because there are ALOT of Military mentally ill people who have the right to and do carry a weapon of choice. Question: Should we tell everyone in the USA that if you have a mental issue you are NOT allowed to carry a weapon? Now we know that there are Millions of people with mental issue problems who are productive citizens, so should we BAN guns from them as well? Unfortunately there are ALOT of Jared Loughners in America, who need and are crying out for HELP HELP HELP HELP! What do we do ignore them until it becomes a Societal problem. If we dont find at least a CURE, mental help programs or support for people like us, you will have another and aother and another Jared Loughner, Tucson Arizona situation. In the Black community our choice of SELF MEDICATING for depression is Marijuana and Alcohol. Black communities have the most Liquor stores in its CITY then our White counterparts — Hmmmm! I wonder why? Alot of US who are black refuse to believe their child or they themselfs are mentally ill, when simply its a FACT of LIFE. The moral of the story is TAKE CARE of the problem before the problem takes care of US.
